Q.
Can
you spin a flat coated dog's hair, like a Lab?
A.
Unfortunately,
the fur from the flat coated dogs will not twist around itself.
We can make ornaments or glue the fur on a picture frame to make
some sort of keepsake.
Q.
What
other items besides scarves, hats and mittens can be made from
the yarn?
A.
You
can use your pets yarn for anything you would use store bought
yarn for. We can make hair scrunchies, dream catchers, felt
ornaments or bandanas. Not as much fur is
required for these projects.
Q.
How
much fur do I need to make anything?
A.
That
depends on what you would like to make. If it's a hat or scarf,
I'd say around 5 oz. of finished yarn. How much is that? If you
take an old fashion paper grocery bag and fill that about 1/3,
that should be enough. The fur needs to be pushed down so to get
rid off all that air space. During the process of making the
yarn, about 10% is lost from taking out short hairs and guard
hairs.
Q.
How
do I care for the yarn?
A.
Care
of the yarn is very simple. To wash, fill sink or tub with cold
water and mild soap such as Ivory.
An unscented dog shampoo can also be used. Do NOT use Woolite.
Place item in the tub and gently submerge. Do not agitate, let
the item soak. Drain water from sink, gently squeeze excess
water from item.
To rinse, fill sink with cold,
clear water. Let item soak again. Drain water, gently squeeze
excess water from item and repeat until all soap is removed.
To dry, roll item up in towel,
place on floor, step on towel to drain water from item. Unroll
and lay item flat to dry. You may have to pull item back to
shape. Once top is dry, flip over to dry other side. Do not hang
to dry.
